Visa

When intending to apply for a visa, foreign nationals are advised to contact the territorially competent Slovak embassy/consulate general in order to receive detailed and up-to-date information on visa requirements.

The list of Slovak embassies and consulates general abroad can be found on the website of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic. In case a Letter of Acceptance is required, please, contact the Study Department at the TUKE faculty you are applying to.

Residence Permit

As EU citizens, you are required to report your stay in Slovakia within 10 days of entering the country (if you are staying in a hotel, they will take care of this). You need to fill out the form available here which is available in several languages but MUST BE FILLED OUT IN SLOVAK, and your ID or passport. You need to request a residence permit if you are staying in Slovakia for more than 90 days. You are allowed to stay in the country longer than 90 days if you are employed or planning to get employed, start your own business, study, or you are a family member of a person who resides in Slovakia, or if you prove that you have sufficient financial resources to cover you and your family during your stay. You are required to register as a resident within 30 days after the first 90 days of your stay elapse.

Domicliary Permit

Foreigners coming to the Slovak Republic need permission for a temporary stay. Students from third countries staying in Slovakia for longer than 90 days need to apply for a temporary residence permit for the purpose of study. You have to apply in person in your home country at the Slovak Embassy/Consulate.

Residence of EU/EEA/Swiss nationals

If an EU/EEA/Swiss national intends to stay in Slovakia longer than 3 months, they are obliged to submit the notice of stay to the foreign police office within 10 working days of their arrival to Slovakia. After that, he/she can stay in Slovakia without any further obligations for up to three months from entry into the Slovak Republic. After this period of three months is over, EU/EEA/Swiss national is obliged to apply for registration of residence in the Slovak Republic within the next 30 days. Before you visit The Unit of Foreign Police of the Police Force situated at this address - Trieda SNP 35, 040 11 Košice - mestská časť Západ, it is strongly advised you book an online appointment here. Keep in mind that The Unit of Foreign Police of the Police Force in Košice is open for only three days a week - (Wednesday, Friday and Monday).
